Starting a monetized YouTube channel provides numerous opportunities for creators to earn income. As of 2024, YouTube offers multiple methods for creators to monetize their content and channel. Here is a brief explanation of each of the monetization methods:

  • Ad Revenue through the YouTube Partner Program (YPP): YPP enables creators to earn money from advertisements displayed on their videos. This is the most common way for creators to monetize their content.

  • Channel Memberships: Channel Memberships allow fans to support creators with a recurring monthly payment, in exchange for exclusive perks and benefits.

  • Super Chat & Super Stickers: Super Chat and Super Stickers allow fans to purchase and send special messages to creators during a live stream.

  • YouTube Premium Revenue: Creators can earn revenue from YouTube Premium subscribers who watch their content without ads.

  • Merchandise Shelf: Creators can sell their own merchandise directly on YouTube through the Merchandise Shelf feature.

  • Courses and Offers: Creators can offer courses, digital products, and services directly to their audience through the YouTube platform.

  • YouTube Funding: YouTube may offer funding to select creators to support the production of new and original content.

  • Fan Funding: Fans can make one-time or recurring donations to support their favorite creators through Fan Funding.

  • Sponsorships and Product Placements: Creators can earn money through sponsored content and product placements in their videos.

  • YouTube Shorts: YouTube Shorts is a short-form video feature that enables creators to earn money from advertisements displayed on their Shorts videos.

With the recent announcement of varying eligibility thresholds for the YouTube Partner Program (YPP), even more creators have the chance to monetize their channel. Starting in mid-January 2024, newly eligible creators can join YPP by either:

  • Accumulating a minimum of 1,000 subscribers and 4,000 valid public watch hours within the last 12 months

or

  • Achieving 1,000 subscribers and 10 million valid public Shorts views within the last 90 days.

To track your progress towards monetization, refer to the Monetization tab in your YouTube account. Additionally, it's important to review the YouTube Partner Program policies, as outlined on the official YouTube Help Center page, to ensure that your content complies with all monetization requirements and guidelines.

With dedication, attention to detail, and a strong understanding of monetization opportunities, you can create a successful and profitable YouTube channel by utilizing a combination of the methods listed above.
